Join Paragon Dive Group’s Ben Lair on an adventure to Budapest, Hungary where we will be diving the Molnár János Cave and Kobanya Mine/Cellar system.
Diving in the Cave System:
The Molnár János Cave is a thermokarstic water-filled cave system. It is located in the Rózsadomb district of Budapest in Hungary. The deepest sections reach 100 metres, while the total length of explored sections is currently 5.5 kilometres. The cave mouth is just 200 metres from the Danube.
Being a thermokarstic system the water in the cave is WARM year round. With water temperatures of 68F at depth and a toasty 82F on deco this cave is a joy to dive in in the middle of the winter!
Diving in the Mine/Cellar System:
On the Eastern side of Budapest, there is a labyrinth of limestone passages. Many of the iconic buildings of the city were built from this limestone. Later winemakers used them as cellars, and from the 20th century, Dreher Brewery owned the place. During WW II a hidden plane engine factory was here. Nowadays some of the rooms are underwater: you can dive in the cold but clear water some exciting parts of the Mine. You shouldn’t expect a typical mine diving, these are basically flooded rooms and cellars of a factory, so there aren’t rails but stairs.
Water temperatures in the mine average between 50-54F year round so while a little colder than the cave this is an incredible dive!

All dives will be in the morning which will allow most of the afternoons to be free to explore. We have some idea for some great museums and restaurants that you need to see! This is a great trip to bring a non-diving partner or spouse!

- 7 nights accommodation or 8 nights if you are joining us on the second leg of our journey in a Hotel on the Danube river that is walking distance from the Dive Site.
